What is your workspace like as a Developer?
In this short post, I will share some of the details of my current workspace. It is crucial to have a good workspace with the tools you need to hand. If you follow my posts, you probably know that I have a lot of computers thrown around. Since I use my home office for work, I also have my employers hardware, so there are a lot of wires, cables, and stuff hanging around. The discussion is always around Screens, Keyboards, Laptops, Desktops, Tablets, Dock stations and Switches.
Screens
I prefer a three-screen set-up though there is always a debate. The decision is yours, depending on your needs. The Guardian newspaper published a good story and provides plenty of advice. My personal preference is one screen for Slack messages, One for Email and one screen for the core work. The core work is always front and centre. Windows such as the terminal are often open and to the side whilst some machine learning model is training. The trend, these days, is for company-wide communication via recorded video so having multiple screens gives me the ability to participate in such events whilst also reading the email or watching some job running on some distant cloud via the terminal. Screen size matters!
Keyboards
I use the Apple keyboard as I find the whole experience of typing just right. The keyboard you choose has a lot to do with your overall experience, creativity, and motivation. An old clunky keyboard is awkward and the tactile experience matters. Choose a…
